MY OTHER WRITING

Work in Progress

Julian

This is the project I am most likely to pursue once I've finished The Weird and the Wicked series. It's a fictional piece based on the life of 4th century Roman Emperor Julian the Apostate. I don't know why, but I feel a very strong connection with this historical figure, so much so that I feel writing his story isn't a choice so much as a compulsion.

While this story may not appear to be in my wheelhouse, there is a magical and mythical aspect to this man's life that I intend to lean into. So, if you like my fairy work, I do think you'll enjoy this as well and find that same eerie and magical tone you're used to from me as I tell this forgotten tale.

In the meantime, here are two preliminary pieces that will evolve overtime into this completed project.

A television pilot I wrote for a series based on Julian's life.

An imagined conversation between Julian, and his former friends Basil of Caesarea and Gregory Nazianzen

Master-Stroke

This is a fairy horror film I wrote that is more in the spirit of what I normally do than Julian. Here is the logline:

In the 1840s, a successful artist is sentenced to life in London’s notorious Bethlem (Bedlam) asylum. There the fairy creatures of his paintings become a terrifying reality. Inspired by the life of fairy artist Richard Dadd and his painting The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke.

The Monster Within

This is a short horror-comedy film I wrote along with director Ghislain Ouellet.

After waking up from a coma, Jenny is followed wherever she goes by a creepy Wraith. The Wraith does not speak. The creature is just there, omnipresent and inescapable. But as time goes by, it is obvious that it wants something from her...

Doctor Who (spec)

This is an episode I wrote of Doctor Who years ago as a requirement for a program I was applying to. At the time The Doctor was the 12th (played by Peter Capaldi) and his companion was named Clara, so that's who starred in the episode.

I had a lot of fun writing the script, but this is one of those things that can never be produced, so I thought I'd share it here.

In this episode The Doctor and Clara are trapped inside an alien insane asylum.

The Sanders Portrait

This short film script was inspired by a particular portrait of Shakespeare.

It's a Shakespearean-style comedy of errors set in Elizabethan London, where a bitter artist plays petty pranks on his childhood rival -- none other than William Shakespeare himself. But when they both fall for the same woman, their rivalry spirals into chaos.
